The skype service has been down now for a few hours not allowing me or many over the Internet to login. ZDNet has also reported a company representative stating that 'some' Skype users may have been having problems logging into the service but we know that is an understatement!
There were reports of tweets also popping up on Twitter.com asking whether Skype was down? According to ZDNet here, Skype's Social Media Communications Manager Peter Parkes was reported to be saying, that, "A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype. We're investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon." On the otherhand, even the moderators of the Heartbeat blog, where this post was originally published have appeared offline to its users.
At 2:15 PM Geneva in Switzerland, Skype still appeared to be out of service and it is not even attempting to connect anymore therefore appearing to be a major glitch. I wonder if its one of those ddos attacks happening that have surfaced across the world on both private and public networks.
Also remember that this has nothing to do with the new buyer of Skype because the deal hasn't even concluded yet, yeah it was announced but then you know what happens in the corporate world for such large deals, it takes time...give them a break!

I am in China and have been having problems for about 4 hours now. Working in internet strategy, this effects absolutely everything work-related for me. I can get in touch easily with my bosses or clients living in the US...I am extremely concerned. I have a client call tomorrow morning and if Skype is not back up and running by then, it is going to cost me a lot of time and money. Considering that I actually pay for many of the Skype services that I use, this is simply greivous. (sorry, sp?) Their loyal users deserve some real, truthful, timely feedback as to the situation.
ReplyDeletei am in Pakistan.i have been facing problem in signing i n to skype for about 5 hours,i have my business which has alot to do with skype.and its the 2nd time i faced that.the should be solved as soon as it is possible.
ReplyDeleteSkype client side software had been attempting to connect on user machines but logged out within less than a minute and this happened continuously for a couple of hours from early noon to early evening.
ReplyDeleteI run my business from the US and Skype is critical.. one of my employees CAN communicate, but the other 5 i need to speak to are shown as offline.
ReplyDelete@Shropshire...... the concern you share as an immediate event is one of the concerns the general skype population now also holds that since there is so much reliance on skype for daily communications in all walks of life, how is this service going to be guaranteed. It remains a challenge to find a single, reliable, sustainable and highly available service in competition with skype and thats why these glitches while shaking us don't help us in finding alternate solutions. This is an opportunity actually, developing an open standard communication protocol and enabling it to be the open standard for chatting through an open source software interface. It will not be competition to skype but more of an opportunity for everyone to be able to be there. It can be done by someone like google by opening up google talk to that level and scale?
